Yeh Ballet is a Netflix Original Film written and directed by Sooni Taraporevala. The movie starts with Quidich’s aerials and establishes Mumbai, the city of dreams in a way that was never seen before, from skyscrapers to slums to monuments it encapsulates it all. The storyline further process into showing how two gifted but underprivileged Mumbai teens face bigotry and disapproval as they pursue their dancing dreams.
Karthik Vijay, the cinematographer of the film had planned some iconic drone sequences, but the one the stole everyones heart was the opening of the film. This was originally planned as an aerial montage of Mumbai, but our team on the day suggested an almost impossible sequence. A shot that starts from Bandra, follows the sea link all the way to worli and then descends down into Worli Koliwada to begin the film with a group of young boys dancing. The moment the creative team heard the idea, they were sold. It took a few takes to get right since the duration of the shot was really long, but if you haven’t watched the film yet, it’s worth seeing the first few minutes to experience the longest single shot that Quidich has ever taken for a film and we can assure you, once you’ve seen that, you’ll end us seeing the whole film!
